Nwama Ndidi Godwin inaugurated New ACY President, as Opia Friday bowls out

In a bid to advance community development, the Aliagwai Community has on Sunday, June 8, 2025, inaugurated Mr. Nwama Ndidi Godwin, as the New President of the Aliagwai Community Youth (ACY) to pilot the affairs of youths, marking an end of the Opia Friday leadership.

The event attended by the esteemed elders of the Aliagwai Community of Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State and the Aliagwai Community Youths at the Aliagwai Townhall was marked by words of wisdom and advice from the community elders and other members of the body who expressed their hopes for the new administration’s success.

The outgoing president, Mr. Friday Opia in delivered a heartfelt speech, reflected on his administration’s accomplishments as well as sharing his vision for the community’s future, emphasizing the importance of collective support for the new leadership.

A key takeaway from his address was the call for unity and support from all community members for the newly inaugurated president.

Highlighting the achievement of his administration, he disclosed that 100 plastic chairs were bought to augment the available ones, tiling of the Townhall, construction of additional roads to aid networking between Ali-Okpu, Alihame and Aliagwai communities as well as the donation of borehole in the Primary School premises by an illustrious son of the community, Kester Amahia which was facilitated by his administration, amongst other achievements.

Mr. Opia specially thanked Amahia Kester for his support towards the community, urging all well-to-do sons and daughters of Aliagwai to emulate his heart of philanthropy in giving back to their society.

Continuing, the outgoing president urged all community members to rally behind the new president, to ensure a smooth transition and continued progress for the youth body while assuring the incoming president his continued support. He urged the new president to be focused, transparent and accommodating even in the face of challenges.

Inaugurating the new president, the Okparan-Uku of Aliagwai, Ezinna Mkpughe J.B., ably represented by Ezinna Acha Sunday and other college of Aliagwai Community Elders who graced the inauguration, offered valuable advice and encouragement to the new president, urging him to stay focused in the face of adversity, and strive to run an open door and all-inclusive administration that will foster growth and development.

In separate remarks, Mr. Vincent Onyenu, Mr. Eku Chukwuekwu, amongst others, congratulated the new president and advised him to imbibe values and virtues that foster growth and development while assuring him of their continued love and support as they wished him a successful and eventful leadership marked by growth, love and peace.

Earlier, the new president, Mr. Nwama Ndidi Godwin, while giving his acceptance speech said, “Distinguished guests, esteemed elders of Aliagwai Community, fellow youths, and honored guests, I stand before you today with immense gratitude and humility as I accept this mantle of leadership as the President of Aliagwai Community Youths.

“This moment is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the trust and confidence you have reposed in me.

“I pledge to work tirelessly to address the needs and aspirations of our youth, fostering unity, progress, and development within our community.

“My administration will prioritize inclusivity, transparency, and accountability, ensuring that every voice is heard and valued.

“I thank our community elders for their wise counsel and guidance. Your wisdom will undoubtedly shape our path forward. To my fellow youths, I invite you to join me in this journey, sharing your ideas, talents, and energy to build a brighter future for Aliagwai.

“Together, let us strive for excellence, promote peace, and uplift our community. Thank you.”

The climax of the epoch-making event was the taking of group photograph, interactive session and presentation of certificates to deserving members.
