In a remarkable act of philanthropy, Chief Kelvin Uche Okolie, the Onwa N’etili Ora of Ukwu-Nzu, has donated a generous sum of N28.5 million to empower 57 youths from his community. Each beneficiary received N500,000 as part of the initiative aimed at promoting business development, financial independence, and economic growth within the area.
The announcement, which came as a surprise to the community, was shared via the local WhatsApp platform, sparking waves of joy and excitement among the residents.
Chief Okolie explained that the donation was his way of giving back to his people, particularly supporting small businesses and encouraging youth empowerment, emphasizing that the funds were intended for individuals those who are resident in the community, own businesses within the community and under the age of 50. He added that the gesture is aimed at fostering self-sufficiency and strengthening local economy.
“I believe this gesture, though small, will go a long way in improving the lives of our youths, and I urge the beneficiaries to use this opportunity wisely,” Chief Okolie said. “In turn, I hope they will reinvest in the community, helping to boost its economic standing.”
Community members have expressed their gratitude for the unprecedented support, with many calling it a game-changer for the youth in the area.
Kaikenechukwu Okolie, a community leader, shared his appreciation: “This is a huge surprise for us, and we are incredibly proud of Chief Okolie’s efforts to better the financial lives of our people. We’re hopeful that this initiative will inspire others to follow suit.”
One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Isaiah Chukwugbamigbe Uzor, expressed his astonishment at the donation: “I’m still in disbelief. To receive such a substantial amount from one individual, especially in these tough economic times, feels surreal. I’m deeply grateful for this opportunity.”
