Wife of the executive Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area, Delta State, Mrs Efechukwu Ehiwarior has celebrated pupils from select primary schools in the local government. The epoch event took place on Monday, October 11, 2025 at the premise of the Agbor Model Primary School, Agbor.
In her address during the event, she said that October 11 is a day set aside globally to celebrate the Girl Child. Speaking on the theme of this year’s celebration, “The Girl I Am, The Change I Lead: Girls On The Frontline Of Crisis:”, she stated that every girl child carries in her creativity and strength, they are the leaders of tomorrow which starts today.
She called on the girls to take their education seriously so that they will grow up tomorrow to become responsible leaders. “Work hard towards building a very good future for yourself. Do not limit yourself, instead plan how to achieve your dreams., “she stated.
While making reference to late Prof Dora Akunyili who worked very hard as NAFDAC DG to stop the use of hard drugs in Nigeria, she advised the girls to believe in themselves and toe the good paths in life so that they can be among those great women that will be celebrated in the future.
He used the medium to call on parents to take the training of their children at school seriously, as education is a sure foundation for success. She congratulated girls around the world and wished them happy 2025 Intentional Girl Child Day celebration. She thanked her husband, Hon Jerry Ehiwarior for his inclusive administration.
Secretary, Ika South Local Government Education Authority, Comrade Chima Matthew Anyia, was a special guest at the event who in his remarks congratulated the girl children in the world. He commended the Ika South Local Government Chairman, Hon Jerry Ehiwarior for leading an administration that is putting smiles on the faces of people in the local government.
The first guest speaker at the event, Mrs N. Agholor who spoke on the topic: Human Trafficking, decried how female children are being taken away from their parents to unknown places where they will be suffered or used like animals, citing of an orphan called, Daniel Okelo who was a victim of child trafficking in Lagos.
She urged parents to take full responsibility of training up their children and should not give their children to people, particularly strangers that may come in the guise of helping them to train them up. On the part of the girl children, she enjoined them to be focused in life and avoid gifts or offers from anyone apart from their parents as those gifts may be negative plans to disrupt their progress in the future. She also advised girl children to listen to their parents and work hard to achieve their aims.
The second guest speaker, Mrs Elizabeth Kalikwu who spoke on hygiene taught young girls at the event how to take proper care of their bodies. She noted that maintenance of proper hygiene is very important in the life of any girl child, hence, it should be taken seriously.
High point of the event were the presentation of gift items to the participants by Mrs Efechukwu Ehiwarior and dance to good tunes from a life DJ stand. Food, drinks and water were served at the event which recorded a high number of attendees.
