Chinemerem Meshack Anyagwa Declared Wanted for Homosexuality, As Father Disowns Him

The Nigerian Police have declared 26-year-old Chinemerem Meshack Anyagwa wanted over a confessional statement from his apprehended childhood gay partner, Osemudiamen Ogedengbe, in Edo State in October.

In a press release signed by the Edo State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer on October 27, 2025, CSP Moses Joel Yamu declared that Anyagwa, whose name has been officially released, is wanted by the Nigerian Police. According to him, “Anyagwa is considered a person of interest and is required to assist with clarifications related to Ogedengbe’s homosexual background and past associations.”

“The apprehension of Ogedengbe, a wanted die-hard, is a celebrated good step and in the right direction by the police to curb the increasing rate of involvement in gay activities.

“Ogedengbe has confessed to being lured into homosexuality at the age of 11 by his classmate, Anyagwa. He boldly accepted being gay, stating that he has no regrets about becoming one even though Nigerian society frowns upon it. The Nigerian Constitution stipulates a 14-year sentence for homosexuality,” he added.

Police spokespersons advised members of the public to remain calm and to be vigilant for Anyagwa, disclosing that the command has offered a substantial reward to anyone providing information that leads to Anyagwa.

The development has generated reactions within the community, particularly after the father of the wanted Anyagwa, Mr Kenneth Anyagwa, a strong Catholic member based in Lagos, publicly distanced himself from the situation.

Speaking to reporters, the father expressed disappointment that his son’s association with the suspect had brought what he described as “needless public embarrassment” to the family. He urged his son to come forward and cooperate with the police.

Mr Anyagwa concluded by disowning his son, Chinemerem Meshack Anyagwa, who he said disgraced him.

It would be recalled that homosexuality in Nigerian society is an abominable offence that requires deadly cleansing, even as the Nigerian Constitution provides a 14-year jail term for offenders.
