At a meeting of APC, Delta North Senatorial District presided by the state’s Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, the immediate past governor of Delta State, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has said that the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for another term by Delta State APC remains the position of the party in Delta North.
He reiterated this decision at Vienna Event Centre, Boji Boji Owa, where Ika North-East hosted the senatorial party meeting. The former governor said the endorsement of the president and governor for another term by Delta State APC is devoid of any ambiguity, adding that the two positions are very essential as they impact more on communities.
“Take the other positions but give me the president and governor. I am saying this because these positions affect our communities more”, adding that party leaders should not allow their personal interests to stall this earlier resolution.
While stating that the meeting was the first in the senatorial district since the seamless migration of the entire state PDP into the party, he advised leaders to genuinely work hard to ensure party unity.
“I know that there are some misconceptions. Some minds are agitated over attainment of their personal interests in the party. All these interests will be resolved. This meeting no doubt will further enhance integration. I should publicly put on record the efforts of Chief Victor Ochei to ensure that this meeting did not only hold but records success. There are people that I may refer to as diaspora members as they cannot be traced to any unit. Let’s allow our spirits to flow with our minds. The best way to do this is to agree inside before going outside.”
Continuing, Senator Okowa said though he was glad with the huge attendance, he encouraged party leaders to ensure more participation of the youths.
“There are some leaders that sent in words about their inability to attend this meeting. I am sure the leader of our party here, the deputy governor, is also aware. I must encourage us to recognize the youths. Some of us may be thinking they do not meet. They meet regularly through their cellphones. We need them here. We must stop bickering as time is running out. We should not be talking about positions and interests. The interest of the party should rank first.”
The former governor said the party platforms are important but should not be utilized for personal gains, stressing that the foundations should first be built together.
While stating that members should conquer self-pride, Senator Okowa said It should not be assumed that because the entire Delta State PDP joined APC, the work has been done, adding that the strong resources now available should be used to build a stronger and united political party.
The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, appealed for the support of all both for the government and party.
Others who spoke at the meeting include Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Hon. Pascal Adigwe, Hon. Doris Uboh, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, Elder Moses Iduh, Sir Chamberlain Dunkwu. They harped on the need for integration and empowerments that accommodate all tendencies in the party.
