In a vibrant display of loyalty, love, and unwavering belief in a new Nigeria, members of the Obidients family in Ika Federal Constituency, Delta State, came together on Saturday, July 19, 2025, to commemorate the 64th birthday of Mr. Peter Gregory Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and the 2023 presidential flagbearer of the Labour Party.
Although Peter Obi himself has consistently insisted on a modest lifestyle and refrains from personal birthday celebrations, his supporters across the nation and beyond felt compelled to mark the occasion with goodwill and grassroots engagement. True to that spirit, Obidients in Ika Federal Constituency brought life to the streets with music, dancing, and outreach in what many described as a day of hope and renewal.
The celebration was far more than a birthday—it was an expression of solidarity with a man they believe holds the key to a transformed Nigeria. The team of passionate supporters, waving Labour Party flags and chanting pro-Obi slogans, visited several key markets and trading centers in the constituency, including: Edike Market, Baleke Market, Popular Garage Market, Ebu-Owa Market, and Buzugbe Market.
At each location, the Obidient family distributed thoughtful gift items such as notebooks, key holders, branded jotters, and mini bags to traders, customers, and residents. The reception from the community was warm and emotional, with many market women singing praises, youth dancing joyfully, and even elders offering heartfelt prayers for Obi’s life and political journey.
The entire event was covered by different Media houses, who captured the joyous moments and community participation. Their coverage highlighted the incredible reach and influence of the Obidient Movement, documenting how deeply Obi’s values of transparency, service, and simplicity have resonated with ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking to the press at one of the outreach points, Mr. Blessed Tuesday Egboh (JP), the programme coordinator and a vocal supporter of Peter Obi, passionately articulated the essence of the event and the motivation behind their movement.
“Anything worth doing is worth doing well,” Egboh began. “Obi is a man of the people. Whether you’re in Lagos, London, or here in Ika, Nigerians know and love him. Though he humbly said he doesn’t like celebrating birthdays, this is beyond a celebration—it is a national affirmation of his impact”, he stressed.
Egboh emphasized that Obi’s influence stretches beyond party lines and is built on principles, performance, and integrity.
According to him, “Coalition is not a party; it’s a convergence of purpose. Peter Obi is not just looking for a political post; he’s looking for a place to rescue Nigeria. He’s too smart and too sincere to be used. Labour Party is the best platform for his candidacy because it allows for truth and transformation. Look around—people are celebrating a man who is not in office. That says a lot.”
He addressed issues of political factionalism, reminding listeners that disagreement is natural—even within families—but unity of purpose is key.
“Politics is personal interest-driven, yes, but in Labour Party, we have the space to adjust and focus. Even Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed knows the vision belongs to Obi. He said it himself—if Obi runs, he will not contest. That’s unity”, he disclosed.
Also addressing the gathering was Pst. Mrs. Mercy Ajeh, the Labour Party women leader in Ika Federal Constituency and former Campaign Director General for Utomi Nwanne during the 2023 elections who her words were filled with passion and conviction.
She stated, “We came out because Peter Obi represents what is right. He has integrity, a good name, and a good heart. That is why we are here. This celebration is not just a birthday—it’s a sign that 2027 will be a political tsunami. Peter Obi is taking over Aso Rock!”
She urged the people to remain hopeful, reminding them that a new Nigeria is not just a dream—it is possible and near. “Peter Obi is our role model. Where he goes, we follow.
