Issele-Uku, Delta State — What was intended as a formal declaration of intent became a carnival-like gathering on Tuesday as Chief (Engr.) Kelvin Uche Okolie officially announced his bid for the Delta State House of Assembly seat representing Aniocha North Constituency II.
The event, held at the All Progressives Congress Local Government Secretariat in Issele-Uku, drew a large turnout of party faithful and supporters from various wards across the constituency. The crowd’s size and energy exceeded expectations, with chants and solidarity displays marking the occasion.
Visibly moved by the reception, APC Local Government Chairman Sir Matthew Chinye said, “We have never had it this way.” He described the turnout as a clear sign of the organic support and goodwill Chief Okolie commands across the constituency.
Addressing party leaders and supporters, Chief Okolie stated that his visit was to formally notify the party of his intention to contest the Aniocha North Constituency II seat.
“Youths of Odiani and Idumuje urged me to step forward because of the trust they have in me,” Chief (Engr.) Okolie said. “After careful consideration, I decided to answer their call.”
As pioneer member of the House for Aniocha North Constituency II, Chief (Engr.) Okolie stressed the need to address pressing challenges facing youths, women, and men in the constituency. “If we fail to get it right now, we may continue on the same trajectory,” he noted. “The people have called on me because they believe in my capacity and competence. Having engaged closely with our communities and understood their needs, I will not disappoint them.”
In his response, Sir Matthew Chinye assured Chief (Engr.) Okolie of the party’s support, while reminding attendees that political power ultimately rests with God.
Dignitaries present at the declaration included Hon. Ikechukwu Uwagwu, Hon. Kaikene Okolie, amongst other local government and ward executives of the party.
