In a bid to strengthen its communication strategy and public engagement, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ika North East Local Government Area, Hon. Emeke Asiwe, has inaugurated the party’s Media Team.

The inauguration ceremony was held on April 17, 2026, at the party’s local government secretariat.

In his address, Hon. Asiwe emphasized the critical role of media in contemporary politics, noting that an effective media structure is essential for the growth and success of any political party.

“For me, as APC Chairman in Ika North East, I strongly believe I cannot function effectively without a media team. Politics is largely driven by communication, and we need the media to create awareness, reorient our people, and promote the party’s programmes and policies,” he said.

He further urged members of the newly inaugurated team to remain dedicated, professional, and committed to projecting the party’s activities positively.

Speaking on the declaration of Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa’s intention to contest the forthcoming senatorial election, Hon. Asiwe stated that, by virtue of his background as a former governor from Ika North East in Delta North, Okowa is qualified to contest for any political office, except the governorship, which he has already held for the constitutionally permitted two terms.

He added that the former governor is merely exercising his democratic right and that his track record in previous positions makes a strong case for his candidacy.

According to him, consolidating on past achievements is crucial, and experienced leadership remains vital for effective representation.

“He has done well in previous positions. Experience counts, and sending a first-timer who would still be learning the legislative process at the Red Chamber may not serve the best interests of Delta North,” Asiwe said.

“We need someone who is experienced and capable of delivering quality representation. This can be achieved through Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, who understands the plight, challenges, and aspirations of the people.”

He called on the people of Ika North East, Delta North, and supporters of good governance to rally behind Okowa’s senatorial ambition.

Speaking on behalf of the Media Team, Mr. Uyawane Hycent expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the opportunity to serve.

He assured that the team would work diligently and professionally to advance the party’s goals and strengthen its public communication.
